Cannon & Co was started by Geoff Cannon in Canterbury over 30 years ago, having previously gained 8 years experience in the local office of a city firm of Chartered Accountants.
The practice moved to the Sandwich area in the early 1980's, where we have been serving the local business community ever since.
The practice has grown for all but one of its many years of existence, and this is attributed to the personal touch, which is at the heart of the professional services that we offer.
The client base has always been varied, covering businesses from all over the south-east of all sizes from personal tax clients and small sole traders to companies and partnerships with multi-million pound turnovers.
Many of our clients have been with us for 20 years or more, and new clients are often the result of personal recommendation from existing clients.
As part of our expansion plans we opened an office in Folkestone in 2007, which gives us the opportunity to extend our client base along the South coast of Kent.
Meet the Partners
Geoff Cannon: Geoff has been an accountant for all of his working life, and has over 40 years experience in public practice, covering all aspects of financial reporting and taxation. This experience has proved to be invaluable when dealing with the many varied problems, which our clients bring to us for our help.
He currently specialises in providing personal taxation advice and services, including dealing with the tax affairs of wealthy individuals.
Geoff is also very experienced at producing management accounts, and often attends board meetings for client companies.
Geoff lives near Sandwich, and is well known for his talents as a tennis player in the local leagues.
In 2003 Geoff invited Ian Strachan to join the firm, to assist him in expanding and developing the practice. Since then Cannon & Co have gone from strength to strength, bringing in new staff, new clients and new technology. However, we are not content to sit on our laurels, but believe in the policy of continual improvement, which means that we always aim for perfection, and this ensures that we always provide the best possible service to our clients.
Ian Strachan: Ian is a Chartered Certified Accountant, who joined the practice in 2003 from the Dover office of McCabe Ford Williams, where he was a manager.
He has many years experience in public practice, mainly as a manager, and specialises in providing small and medium sized businesses with accountancy, taxation and VAT advice and services.
Ian is also very experienced at dealing with business start-ups, and providing advice on the best structure, maintaining accounting records, setting up a bank account, notifying the relevant authorities, and generally guiding clients through the minefield that seems to exist when starting a business for the first time.
Ian lives in Folkestone, having been born and raised in Dover, and also has a BA (Hons) degree in Accounting & Finance.
